MOA Bifocal - August 29, 2019

As students go back to school all across Michigan - it's important to take the opportunity to stress the need for all kids to have comprehensive eye exams. Try posting a Facebook campaign or sending an email out to your patients!
The bifocal is a bi-weekly series that provides the latest about industry news, events, and updates. If you’d like to contribute to the bifocal or have an update you think we should see, please email us at:

We're excited to host these fun events for young ODs at Top Golf and Arcadia Smokehouse!

The Top Golf event is coming up in a couple of weeks and we only have a few spots left, so don't forget to register!. The event starts at 7pm on Thursday 9/12 at Top Golf in Auburn Hills.

Thanks to our sponsors, we're able to offer this activity for only $20 per person. That includes golf, food, drinks, and fun with your peers.

If you'd like to learn more about other events, visit our events page.

Visibly, formerly known as Opternative, is no longer making its online refractive vision test available on its website, reflecting an Aug. 8 notice by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Recall notices are issued by companies when told by the FDA a product is being offered in violation of federal law.

The MOA and its Legislative Committee has stood steadfast in putting teeth behind the Michigan laws it helped to create in protecting the public from Visibly (formerly Opternative). We applaud the AOA’s efforts and the FDA in its most recent action. The MOA will continue to help enforce the state laws that it fought to diligently to create.

"Optometrists and other physicians know that eye exams are essential care and that new health technologies must always enhance the doctor-patient relationship and help deliver improved outcomes," AOA President Barbara L. Horn, O.D., says. Click here for more information about the FDA recall and AOA’s formal complaints to the FDA.

Early Registration closes Monday!
